Title: Pride Hinders

Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. – James 5:16

My pride gets in the way too much. I’d rather have people think I am “doing good” than know my faults and failures. It feels more comfortable to live that way. It feels more relaxed, but it’s not. When I don’t confess, there’s something inside me that gets all wound up like an old rusty garage door spring. You never know when it’s going to break, but it will. It has taken me some time, but I have learned to value confession and what happens when it’s done right.

Don’t use the shotgun approach, like confessing your darkest stuff to the world on some radio call-in show. Instead, find a few people you know, trust, and respect. How about a couple of Real Man Card friends?

Give each other permission to ask tough questions and trust each other enough to admit your failures. This isn’t about looking good or competition. It’s about growing in your relationship with God and with others in your group.

We must remember not to let anything get in the way of our most important relationships, including our own sins. It can be tough, but remember this verse! Confession brings about healing!

Real men confess even when it’s tough.
